Lays of Ancient Rome by Thomas Macaulay 1847 Leather Bound Gilt Edged Longmans

This Gorgeous Leather book published by "Longman,Brown,Green and Longman" in 1847 by Thomas Babington Macaulay is in good to fair condition..There are many illustrations originally drawn on wood by George Scharf Jun.The Maroon Leather boards both front and rear are ornately decorated in a Gilt raised pattern. The external spine should have 5 raised bands but I can see only 4..There is Gilt lettering to the spine...the title, author and London 1847..These boards have some scuffing to the gutter and extremeties with a few scratches and marks..all edges are gilt..The internal pages are moderately tanned with spotting in several places...quite heavy in places too. There is a pen inscription on the front facing endpaper..and it looks like the rear internal hinge is cracked..
